988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

AFSP is dedicated to preventing suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. As a public health organization, AFSP believes that it is our individual and collective responsibility to support the mental health and wellbeing of  LGBTQ people.

Behavioral Health Resources

 The Behavioral Health Administration recognizes the impact of this event on communities in Colorado Springs and across the state. Please use this resource guide  with crisis services, local resources and LGBTQIA+ specific organizations.

Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies

LGBTQ Health Care Rights and Resources: The Division of Insurance (DOI) regulates the health insurance industry in Colorado and ensures companies follow state and federal laws. The following resources help explain the rights and protections of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans when accessing health care and benefits, and provide additional information when working with a medical or behavioral health provider, as well as various community resources.

GLMA– Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality partnered with the Tegan and Sara Foundation, the nonprofit started by award-winning musicians Tegan and Sara, to launch the brand-new LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory with key support and collaboration from global health service company, Cigna.

SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

Trans Lifeline

The Trans Lifeline is specifically geared towards transgender people who are going through a crisis, dealing with gender identity confusion and self-harm prevention. The Trans Lifeline is a phone line open 18 hours daily (11am to 5am).

The Trevor Project provides support for LGBTQ+ youth under the age of 25 through a 24-hour phone, chat (3pm-10pm daily), and texting (Monday-Friday, 3pm-10pm) services with counselors. The project also offers peer-to-peer support through TrevorSpace.
